Don’t Judge The Line.

Gentle evening, beautiful folk,

I wanted to talk about creating, specifically drawing. I wonder how many of you draw? And I wonder how many of you think that you can’t draw.
If you replied in the positive to that last question, then I wanted to share something with you.

It doesn’t matter.
It doesn’t matter if you think that you can’t draw.
It doesn’t matter if someone once told you that your drawing didn’t meet their standards.
It doesn’t matter if you once drew a picture and then threw it away because in your eyes it wasn’t good enough.
It doesn’t matter.
I’ll honour your feelings always, and from that place of respect I’ll tell you it doesn’t matter. Not to me.

If you have any fears along the lines of “but what if it’s not as pretty/ intricate / beautiful as the pictures that I’ve seen,” then I would like to invite you to take a moment and trust.
Trust in yourself.
Trust in the desire that has you picking that pen or pencil and pausing, poised, over that sheet of paper.
Trust in the lines. Trust in the colours. Trust in the shapes.

I know.
It can be hard to trust.
A blank sheet of paper is daunting. The mind tries to think how to fill it. And creativity doesn’t flow if we think too much about it. But if we have simple foundations, like a shape of geometry, a simple structure for us to build upon, then shape follows shape. Line follows line. This is our Soul flowering and flowing.
To make one mark on a blank sheet of paper takes courage. There is no right way or wrong way to draw. There is no pretty or ugly. The line just is. It doesn’t ask for your judgement.

What will you create?

New Workshop Announced!

Workshop

imbolcheader

Hello beautiful folk! You are warmly invited to enjoy an afternoon of meditation and mandala drawing to celebrate the returning of the light at Imbolc.

Imbolc, also known as Brigid’s day, marks the stirring of new life. We have travelled through the darkness of the winter, and although yet to arrive at Ostara (the spring equinox), life in the land around us begins to quicken. We see the first snowdrops. We feel the warmth in the sun. We welcome the return of the light, not only to the external landscape that surrounds us but our inner landscape, which nourishes us. This is a beautiful time to honour the sacred fire that burns within us, carrying us forward into the new growth of spring. Come nourish your light so that it may shine bright.

In this session we’ll be working with a meditation to connect with the energies of Imbolc and then you’ll be guided to create a mandala with this energy, as well as learning how to use this mandala as a tool to connect with the light in your journey forward.

Book a space.

I look forward to celebrating with you all!

Much love,

Debra.

Writing

I’m on a journey with vulnerability, specifically chewing on my fears of being seen by people whom are not comfortable with emotional authenticity. This is a deep wound/lesson/passion that I’ve discovered drives a lot of the creative and healing work I offer.

dl-vulnerability4-2018

Today I took my tenderness and vulnerability for a walk in the woods. I asked my vulnerability if it has something to tell me. This is what it said.

“Your sensitivity is your strength. Your vulnerability is important. Your tenderness is important.”

dl-vulnerability2-2018

“I know that you’re scared to show your vulnerability, tenderness, and authentic emotions based on past experiences. I also know that you champion vulnerability and pattern-break from ancestral patterns. You champion authenticity and accountability. You feel enraged when people feel they have to hide their authenticity and feelings for fear of being labelled “too emotional”. You feel grief for the world/society/culture that has taught us to do that and the choked-off emotions of generations past.”

dl-vulnerability3-2018

The motivation for this journey was the shame. The “toughen up”. The “keep your chin up”. The “when we feel low, we should do what we can to uplift ourselves,” (implying that the state that we are in is wrong/should be changed).

The map that led me through this territory was The Power Of Vulnerability TED talk by @brenebrown
The goal was to set these ghosts and patterns to rest so that I may move forward strong.
The unexpected gifts that I received were:
“I accept my tender and vulnerable heart.”
“I am worthy of loving, emotionally authentic connections.”
“I am enough.”
